Season Reopening - Metalwork of Eric Folsom - Music w/Jim Gilmour
Join us for an evening of art and music!
Opening reception and welcome to new DRV Gallery metalworking artist Eric Folsom. The evening will also feature live music with Jim Gilmour and friends.
Eric began a metal apprenticeship in 1977 in Sperryville, VA, with artist George Anderson. He learned metal skills; the use of torches, pliers, cutters, grinders, and shaping tools to fabricate art from bronze and copper. Eric first exhibited at art and craft shows in 1979. He returned to Pinellas County in 1995 and from his studio in Gulfport, is making work and accepting public and private commissions. Most recently, as a nod to his first adult career, he has been recycling bicycle parts to make gates and other sculptural objects using the same techniques that he employs in his jewelry.

No experience necessary. 12 years and up. Materials provided.
About the Instructor:
Originally from Europe, Vanya Robinson has traveled this World. Yet, it was the Sonoran Desert that inspired her unique approach to art. She collected different dead botanical materials from the Desert floor and assembled them into various, mostly recognizable forms, painted with acrylics.
Upon relocating to Florida, the desert materials got substituted with the offerings from the beaches. She uses seashells and her playful artistic vision for sculpting all imaginable sorts of colorful objects and creatures. While initial steps in Arizona might have been somewhat experimental, they traced a path to a fully blown and recognizable form of art. She takes pride in the fact that in the world of Art, where every avenue has already been explored, she came up with something unique that can be associated with her name only.

LIQUID LIGHT featuring the works of Curtis Whitwam
Curtis Whitwam’s current work is mission driven, as a way to inspire you to see the beauty of the natural spaces that surround us and be moved to protect them. Watercolor is his medium, natural patterns are his focus. The shape of the roots, the branches of the trees, schools of fish, or swirls on the waters’ surface anchor a moment. This feeling of presence is expressed in his artwork through a painting technique he uses to execute the layers of color and value that create the resonance of a place or experience.
A portion of the sales of Curtis’ artwork is donated to the Florida Springs Institute, whose mission it is to educate, research, and document the health of Florida’s freshwater springs.

First Friday - Evening at the Gallery
Join us First Friday, February 7th 5:30-8:30 PM for an Evening at the Gallery and opening reception for Every Day Magic a solo exhibition featuring the artwork of Rebecca Skelton. This free community event will also feature live music with Jim Gilmour and special guest Scott Hunt!
Rebecca Skelton Artist Statement:
“The making and viewing of art is transformative. It is a spiritual experience even more than an intellectual one. I work in painting, drawing and sculpture. I begin my artwork as an experiment with a particular set of colors or elements. The goal is to see what sort of expression I can get from the various combinations and the handling of the colors and material itself. The basic result is that much of my work has been nonobjective although it contained suggested forms. I consider the goal of abstraction to be the most difficult and the pinnacle of the use of art as a visual language. Although much of my art contains figurative elements, I will always consider myself primarily an abstract artist. From the first searching mark placed on a surface and each component fabricated, the art begins to define itself more and more narrowly until there is no more to discuss. The image knows only itself as it struggles to emerge. Each is like a willful child growing into an independent image. Any element behaves only as its particular state of being allows it to behave. And each piece of art demands its own format. For this reason, my work is varied. Each new piece cries to be its own event.”
About Rebecca Skelton
Rebecca Skelton earned her B.F.A. and M.F.A. from Auburn University. She has taught a wide variety of art classes as an adjunct professor for University of Tampa, St. Petersburg College, USF St. Petersburg, HCC Ybor, and Eckerd College as well as for the Morean Arts Center, Creative Clay, Youth Arts Corps, and the Dali Museum. She is the volunteer coordinator for models and monitors for Morean Art Center’s Saturday figure drawing open studio where she has been a participant for at least 30 years.
About Scott Hunt:
Scott is a singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist based in Tampa, FL. He received his first guitar at the age of 5, which began not only his lifelong love of music but also an interesting musical instrument collection. He has played extensively across the country and has opened or shared the stage with a wide variety of well known artists, but also some extremely talented lesser known artists. Since moving to the Tampa area, Hunt has played solo as well as with several area bands…Grindstone Syndicate (red dirt country), Cassie Jean and the Fireflies (original Americana band), Joel Hosler (original work), and a 90’s Country tribute band (Whiskey County).
